“…we have not ceased to pray for you and ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power; according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously “giving thanks” to the Father…” (1)
My best wishes to grandfathers, fathers, and uncles, Happy Father’s Day to you!
This week I’ve been mindful of the approaching Father’s Day. It caused me to think back on some of the Father’s Days I’ve experienced. For me, there have been a few that have been especially painful. Such as when I was a single parent. I felt alone. I hurt for my three children whose dad seemed to be the missing link in life. Why did life have to be so empty for them?
God was teaching me a vital life lesson in those years. He was teaching me the permanent benefit of a heavenly Father. The Lord opened my eyes by showing me the blessing I had here in this life and also my full extent of blessing in eternity. Shifting my focus off myself to counting my blessings one by one, added meaning and purpose into my life. I learned to join in the sweetest communion with my heavenly Father. He gives me His inheritance and blessings. Part of those blessings is the comfort of the Holy Spirit who continually understands my pain.
If you are in a place as I was, without a dad in your children’s life, or have an uninvolved dad then I encourage you to turn to your heavenly Father. He will meet your needs in a special way this Father’s Day. Or, if your husband is your children’s dad who is sharing life with you, never forget who he is, “created in God’s image”, which all dads are! He may need to be reminded from time to time of his true identity is in Christ. Stand by him! Pray for him to develop and reach his greatest potential. Pray for growth to live by the grace and the power God has given him. May he become the man God has perfectly designed him to be.
Heavenly Father, You are our eternal Father. Thank You for the father’s You have blessed us with and help us be mindful of faithfully praying for them. Amen
