On The Potter’s Wheel

“I went down to the potter’s house and there he was making something on the wheel. But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hands of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel as it pleased the potter to make.” (1)

God uses the unusual, unlikely, least expected people made with flaws and imperfections, to accomplish extraordinary tasks. He loves using broken ordinary people who can reflect His glory in unimaginable ways. After all, doesn’t God still choose “…the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong.”? (2)

I am a broken vessel. I have been twisted, crushed and pressed on the potter’s wheel. Ah, but the Master has used His delicate fingers to remake me into His beautiful instrument useful for His purposes. Where I fall short in those places where I feel unequipped, unskilled, and unable (like in my writings), is where God’s spirit moves to accomplish what I feel unable to do…for in my weakness He is strong. Sheepishly I pray, “Lord take me as I am, use me for Your glory.” Then He reminds me that He will continue to accomplish what He desires until the work is complete.

Even when I, this unlikely lump of clay, am unlovely, I need to consider I am God’s vessel, His masterpiece. A part of His workmanship that He is molding and shaping while I am maturing. He’s not finished with me, in fact, He still has much work to do. I need to be patient…to trust what God is doing, for nothing He does is less than perfect.

O Heavenly Father in my earthly struggles I become more aware that when I am weak You are strong. I am grateful that You continue to work in me each and everyday of my life. Your design is perfect, so I thank You. Amen.
