A Safe Harbor

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he mediates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” (1)

How can we know God’s ways unless we read the Scriptures to know what is required of us?

“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” (2)

A Harbor!

God’s Word provides security to get through the toils and struggles of this life. C. H. Spurgeon says, “The Bible is a harbor where I can drop down my anchor, feeling certain that it will hold. Here is a place where I can find sure footing; and, by the grace of God, from this confidence I will never be moved.” (3)

Do you have an Anchor to hold you secure?

The Word is a light and a safe harbor! They are stable and strong. The Scriptures are as necessity for the soul as food is to the body. I encourage you to set time aside to read your Bible today. Then, pray and ask the Lord to open your heart to find those special nuggets in Scripture that you’d never seen before. Ask God to bring someone along to share what you’ve learned. This is what I do. I write memory verses on an index card and put them in my pocket. Then, when I run into an acquaintance, or new friends, I share what I’ve been meditating on.  I take the opportunity to ask if they would like to take my verses and think about it themselves. Gladly they receive them. As you become more acquainted with the Scriptures, you will become more useful in evangelism. Ultimately you can share those truths in fulfilling a greater mission of ministry…to go and tell others of Jesus!

The Scriptures transform our hearts and minds. Most important, they teach us to live in wisdom by learning discernment and how to understand life’s difficulties.

God precepts are vital!

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much find gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb moreover by them
Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward. (4)

By meditating on the Word of God we find a spring of joy where living waters continues to flow…fresh living water.

Heavenly Father, enlarge my heart to yearn for Your Word. It is valuable and boundless and is everything I need for instruction, and guidance. Please send your Holy Spirit to bring someone into my path today that I can share with. Amen.
